Review: Nella the Princess Knight ” Quest in the Castle; Cute Critter Watching”

-Insert “Gremlins” reference here-

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

“Quest in the Castle”

As Nella and her friends decide to go on a random quest within the castle due to the intense winds of thunderstorm making them unable to leave the house. But out of happenstance finds a note from her ancestor that there’s a hidden treasure within the Castle with the only clue that it can only be found by a “Princess Knight”.

“Cute Critter Watching”

Nella, Olivia, and Garrett go on a “Critter Watching” session, but Olivia does her best to impress everyone despite the lack of knowledge she has towards these creatures, and it ends up having potentially disastrous consequences when she encounters a tiny yellow fuzzy creature called a “Chompling” that despite its cuteness has a bizarre set of rules when encountering one that feels almost similar to the 80’s movie Gremlins

Our Take

With “Quest in the Castle” it doesn’t waste time for Nella to go into her obligatory “Princess Knight” transformation, but begins to make sense when the plot unravels and despite the dangers everyone within her circle encounter, Nella show’s how flawlessly capable she is sort-of like Chuck Norris but for little girls. It even has a musical montage that keeps things lighthearted but the lesson that’s properly conveyed is that sometimes fun and adventure can be found in the most unexpected places.

As for “Cute Critter Watching”, Olivia is clearly a character of pure ignorance and tends to make questionable decisions that leave you to question her sanity, but given that the Chompling is just wild animal that doesn’t know any better you can’t really hate it for what it does, but eventually Olivia realizes that not knowing everything isn’t always a bad thing as long as your capable of learning from your mistakes.

The musical numbers in both episodes are short & catchy, but also get the point across and become thematically relevant during the proceedings and properly convey what they’re getting across to their kid-audience.

Overall both episodes were decently paced with the proper use of action when the plot demanded it. If there are any lessons I can take from both episodes, it’s that sometimes Fun can be found when you least expect it, and to quote something my Late Father once said to me: “Ignorance can be cured, but stupid lasts forever”.
