“Dragon Playdate Disaster”

Our Take

It seems thematically relevant that it would have a Mother’s Day special on “Queen Mom’s Day”, but we do learn where Nella’s adventurous side may have stemmed from and it’s in a positive light as Queen Mom is revealed to have an established history, and even learn that some of the Animals at some point (Including a family of Bats) even consider her a friend of the family in the past. Given that this is a Mother’s Day special, it’s mainly focused on Nella’s mother, but I guess that’s the point the episode was aiming to achieve, to honor the caring mother’s in our lives, and giving them their much-deserved spotlight.

As for “Dragon Playdate Disaster”, A recurring character we haven’t seen in a while named “Sir Blaine” makes a full fledge appearance and it was refreshing to see more characters outside of the standard ones we know about, Including the introduction of Human & Dragon children that co-exist within a medieval day-care center which you’d think would be disasterous given that they’re Dragons and in any other story, a Dragon would be violent & animalistic and possibly eat human children, but I can let it slide since this is intended to be a childrens show with talking animals and sentient fantasy creatures. It was also surprising that certain Dragons even have chameleon-like cloaking abilities as well.

The Animation & Action scenes are both colorful & on-point and excel with fluid movements and action scenes while tame, feel very put-together and don’t feel out of place given the dangerous situations that sometimes happen within this show’s universe.

Overall, Both episodes excelled in fleshing out and expanding the world of Nella, in different ways as we learn stuff about Queen Mom’s adventurous past when she was young, And we learn that different species of Dragons exist along with the existence of a Day-Care center within Nella’s kingdom.

Not terrible episodes, but for a mother’s day special, it was nice to give Nella’s Mom her moment to shine, even if we still don’t know her or King Dad’s real name.
