Review: Nella the Princess Knight “A Very Clothes Call”

-Insert Laundry-puns here-

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

Nella and her friends Trinkett, Garrett and Clod must avoid getting their clothes dirty before a big fancy party called the “Castlehaven Jubilee party”, but the small journey getting there proves harder than it sounds due to a series of obstacles that put Nella and her friends into some delicate clothing-related situations.

Our Take

This was a fun episode. Apparently, technology sort-of exists within this medieval universe full of magic and talking animal creatures as demonstrated with a mechanical cleaning service that’s run by a lady named Rosie.

The animation, art style and voice acting consistently remain on-point and where the show seems to shine the most in terms of presentation. We do get a musical number that’s catchy and thematically relevant to the episode, and much like any cartoon or TV show, we do get the obligatory transformation scene with Nella in “Princess Knight” mode when the situation calls for it.

If there were any faults with this one, I’d have to say there were moments where the story felt ridiculously contrived. For example, the walking path getting to this fancy party just happens have a proverbial minefield of mud puddles that Clod is tempted to jump into being a simple-minded horse and all, and you’d think with the other partygoers outside of Nella and her circle of friends, this would also affect their efforts getting there as well.

If there’s any positive message I can take from this one, It’s that sometimes it’s ok to ask for help when it’s genuinely needed. And through a series of accidental & comedic mishaps, it gets the point across while still being kid-friendly and charming.
