Review: Momma Named Me Sheriff “TV ; Sunday Man”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

“TV”

The Goodman family gets a new smart TV that Stanley quickly buries in the backyard. After a raging T-storm, the TV comes to life and brings with it an army of more TVs that are terrorizing Old Town. Fortunately, the Sheriff’s department, fresh out of jail, are able to come up with a plan to both get rid of the TVs AND set up a future Hollywood star.

“Sunday Man”

Sunday Man is actually Sheriff’s dad who we learn actually faked his death to get rid of a nasty napkin syndicate who wanted nothing more than to push their weight around and force unfair business practices at his former ice cream shop. Fortunately, with the power of the Sheriff’s department the bad napkin people get scared away and Sheriff’s family now has their ice cream shop back.

Our Take

Momma Named Me Sheriff’s dual episodes offer up an interesting dichotomy for fans. For “TV” we get just a little bit closer to what was Mr. Pickles, complete with a hilariously silly premise that would not feel out of place for the old series mainly because we spend much more time with the Goodmans than we have in weeks past. And with pictures of our good ol’ boy all over the house, and even Mrs. Pickles starting to look like she’s coming into form, I can’t help but wonder if we’re any closer to some sort of reunion of the satanic spaniard that we love so much.

“Sunday Man” is more indicative of the future of the series. Introducing an interesting dynamic to a slowly building cast for a show looking to start anew. An ice cream shop run by Sheriff’s dad who has been on the run from the napkin mob is peak Hothouse, and is absolutely on display during the completely nourishing climax. But with this half-hour, I can’t help but sense a tug-of-war in a sense, where two horses are pulling on one strapped body in opposite directions and seeing how far it can go before it breaks.
