Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man “The Road to Goblin War”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

A former employee of the Beamont Corporation, Jalome Beacher, goes rogue and starts running amok in NYC which means Spidey has to stop him. We come to find out that Slyde’s actually still on the payroll of his former corporation with an insider from the Goblin Nation.

Our Take

The one thing I gotta give Marvel’s Spider-Man is that it’s hilarious how deep they go into the comic book treasure trove of villains and I’m a huge fan of Slyde’s in the comics. So when I saw that he was going to be in this episode, I was excited….until I actually saw him. I have to constantly remind myself that typically every villain gets “Disney-fied” and I guess a powerful chemist is too hot for the Mouseketeers to handle because we get another pseudo android/robot villain that’s bland as hell. It sets up the Goblin Nation arc, a group of robot-powered villains, so you can already tell where this one’s headed as well. A lot of short-circuited bot-battles and the terribad Scott Menville Doc Ock counterattacking with his own band of robots.

This is the type of shit that gets me happy as hell that Jeph Loeb has been fired from Marvel TV. Hopefully, with Kevin Feige taking over, he can eventually take back the reigns of Marvel’s terrible animation track record and give us some higher-quality content. Or, if I’m Sony, bringing back the nineties cast for a reboot of the FOX Spider-Man animated series.
