Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man “Goblin War – Part One”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Spider-Man is investigating the Goblin Nation and how exactly these guys are getting this Oscorp tech that was supposed to belong destroyed. We come to find out that Alistair Smythe, who just enrolled at Peter’s former school, had access to Harry Osborne’s old designs and that he may be behind everything.

When he gets to Alistair’s hideout, Spidey is greeted by Spider-Slayer robots and needs the assistance from Ghost-Spider and Spider-Girl. We come to find out that the girls think Peter Parker is the new Goblin and so they begin tracking down the webhead just as Harry Osborne is back in town who is not happy about the fact that Spider-Man is teamed up with Doc Ock.

The Spiders knock out an army of Goblins terrorizing downtown NYC and learn that Smythe is part of Goblin Nation, he isn’t the leader. Goblin-King shows up and both destroy Doc Ock’s Spider bots and frees any captured Goblin Nation.

Our Take

Another bot-filled episode of Marvel’s Spider-Man comes to pass, and just as unoriginal as the Goblin Nation’s character designs is the entire Spider-Team. For starters, Ghost-Spider should’ve been renamed Spider-Woman by now, and none of the Team members have original attributes other than their costumes, and Scott Menville’s Doc Ock is still so bad that I can’t even think about it without wanting to punch my computer talking about it. Smythe isn’t a terrible depiction, but if Marvel’s Spider-Man was just a tad less lazy, I might actually be excited about that cliffhanger.
