Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man “Brand New Day”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Spider-Man’s going through a little bit of “separation anxiety” after his mind switcheroo with Otto had come to pass, but he doesn’t have too long in which to gloat because Mister Negative and Molten Man are duking out downtown. Moreover, someone has taken all of the Avengers hostages and Spidey thinks it’s a bunch of villains that are already locked up. Turns out, it’s Regent, and he soon takes Spidey, too. Will our web crawler be able to make it out alive? We find out next week!

Our Take

I was actually looking forward to a quality take on Regent, of which we did not get. Nope, not even close. Regent is essentially an Iron Man clone with the stolen powers that the comic villain known for, but with none of the artistic sinister looks that the Dan Slott-created character is known for. I did quite enjoy some of the more “Peter Parker having problems” moment following his coming to grips with reality, however, these were short-lived and quickly moved to a Disney-ruined villain that can be quickly forgotten.
