Review: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout “Just One Victory”

Is this love that I’m feeling?

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The Guardians end up recruiting Rhomann Dey and Thanos to help in getting even with the Serpent on Asgard who now has like three Avengers and a slew of other notable entries from the Marvel hero gallery. Oh, and remember that sword we just took the last hour to get? The Serpent gets his hands on it for a bit, but Thanos is able to beat the hell out of Odin’s brother for a split second before being banished, however, not before Groot grabs Hela’s sword and puts it exactly where it needs to go. With the help of the Guardians, Groot plunges the sword into the World Tree thereby severing the Serpent’s connection and saving the day.

The Asgardians are saved which is good because it’s Odin that has to resuscitate a dying Groot. The Guardians head back to Nowhere to save Heimdall from the Collector while Thanos and Hela become best friends. Back on Earth, the Guardians of the Galaxy get a warm welcome back via the Avengers and Quill gets a hello from Grandpa Quill.

Our Take

Yes, Henry Winkler guest stars as Grandpa Quill. Unfortunately, it’s like a minute long cameo, so if that’s the thing you were excited for you’re gonna be disappointed. Slightly better was the Serpent v Thanos battle and a bunch of arcs built-in for upcoming seasons of Guardians of the Galaxy that won’t actually be happening. In any event, I’d be lying if I said we didn’t get a satisfying ending to what is undoubtedly a poster boy of an animated series that showcases everything wrong with Disney Television Animation’s monopoly on Marvel animation. Typically when we get poor adaptations of MCU-verse films, it never ends well, and instead, we get crap like this. I think most of the intended fan base would prefer a franchise that maybe is inspired more by the same pages that James Gunn used to put this thing together, to begin with, not the movies whereby we get cheap imitations of Hollywood A-listers. Disney XD needs a new identity.
