Review: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy “Holding Out for a Hero” ; With A Little Help From My Friends”

I need a hero.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

With the help of a Darkhawk, the Serpent returns and attaches himself to the World Tree and becomes the new King of Asgard after scaring away the Guardians w/ Loki and capturing both Thor and Odin pretty much single-handedly. Loki disconnects the Bifrost with the Guardians so that the Serpent can’t escape and now we have a vehicle to get a bunch of reinforcements to get help in the battle against Odin’s brother.

With the Guardians plus Loki banished, the team feels they need to scour the galaxy in getting some new recruits so as to help take down the Serpent once and for all. Eventually, Cosmo, Howard the Duck, Nova, Yondu, Nebula, Iron Man, and The Hulk all join the fray for a “To Be Continued” effort.

Our Take

I thought I was off the hook for Disney’s Guardians after last week’s debacle as it was noted in the listings the show was going to a day time slot. Alas, that’s not the case, and we have three more episodes after these two all happening next week which just goes to show Disney is doing everything in it’s power to take this franchise and burn it at the stake. In any event, it was fun seeing some seldom used faces in Marvel’s animated library for what was essentially a two-part set up for the series finale. Most, if not all, of the obstacles seen by the Guardians as they were taking part in their recruiting efforts were lackluster and the same old tired ass tropes that the Disney XD animation library has given us up until this point.
