REVIEW: Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY “Bad Moon Rising”

Spoilers Below

The Guardians are out and about just looking for a moon with the Cosmic Seed when Nebula shows up smashing the Milano windshield with Ronan’s hammer.

After sling shooting Nebula away, Quill and crew show up to their destination, Mandala. As soon as the group lands, everyone starts to act nuts with the exception of Peter and we don’t know why. Rocket is acting like a real raccoon, Groot is acting like a tree, Drax as a gladiator, and Gamora as an assassin for Ronan. We learn that the surface of the planet turns everyone nuts, so Quill creates an ice landing and everyone turns back to normal.

We come to find out that the planet is alive and talks and causes Quill’s surface to melt all the while turning everyone crazy again. Nebula shows up looking for the Cosmic Seed and Quill convinces the team to chase after her. That may be a moot point, however, because Nebula has just resurrected Ronan from the dead using the planet’s abilities, and this fucker is PISSED. A battle ensues between Thanos’ kids/Ronan and the other Guardians.

The Guardians team is brought back together, and Ronan convinces the moon to head to Xandar. Mandala starts to fight back against Ronan, but it isn’t enough just yet. Quill has to convince the craggy rock to get rid of Ronan and Nebula just in the nick of time to save Xandar. Mandala is made an honorary Guardian and now the galaxy is protected once again.

Our Take

When this show is bad…it’s bad. It’s worse when we keep doing constant call backs to the movie that just aren’t cute. I just don’t quite understand the appeal of taking someone else’s script, and copying and pasting from that. And it’s all over the place here and granted that was the plot the producers decided to go with here, but really? Heck, nothing even happened to Quill and he was the worst of all in hearkening back constantly to the James Gunn script.

Also, Ronan is back, because officially this show has run out of ideas for villains, so that’s what we’re doing now. I also don’t quite get why Ronan’s hammer has the powers from the infinite stone, but I really don’t want to investigate much further. Fortunately, this was the last episode of the year, but I know there are more episodes to season one on the way.
