Review: Marvel’s Avengers Black Panther’s Quest “Yemandi”

When Thor is the comedy relief, you know you’re in trouble.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week, we are introduced to former Queen of Wakanda, Yemandi. We meet Yemandi taking part in some sort of gladiator tournament where she comes into a battle with a pre-Mjölnir Thor and quickly dispatches him. As a reward, she gets a spear that inspires her to go on what Thor dubs as a “treasure hunt”. Really it’s back story on the crown that we saw a couple of weeks ago only this go-round we run into Morgan le Fay who turns Thor into a frog during a magic battle. Yemendi and Thor win out, Morgan runs away, and Black Panther wants to do a few more rounds of his past next week.

Our Take

My actual dream matchup in an MCU film would be Doctor Strange vs Morgan Le Fay. In the meantime, I have no idea what this was. I mean, we literally turned Thor into a talking frog hurling ridiculous one-liners, all which were filled with corn and no substance. Clearly we’re in this trek of filler episodes for a character that apparently the writers have already ran out of ideas for in Black Panther. In fact, one of the more upsetting parts of the show was the throwaway use of Grizzly! I, for sure, thought that he was gonna show up in this series in a bit more of a crazier capacity than what we got, but whatever. That’s the least of this show’s worries. Every…episode…is…chasing…trinkets…or….treasure. Every Marvel animated series that Disney XD airs does all of this same script and I’ve just about had it.
