Review: Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest “The Good Son”

Unfortunately, Elijah Wood is nowhere to be found.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Black Panther holds a meeting with the Secret Avengers and Captain America who is NOT happy with the King’s choice in team members including White Wolf and Baron Zemo. All of a sudden, the power goes out, and Ape-Man gets loose and goes after Black Panther and Captain America then escapes into the sewer where a battle ensues with the Dora Milaje and Shuri that sees Ape-Man defeated.

Meanwhile, Cap and Panther catch White Wolf with Zemo and we learn that White Wolf has betrayed his brother despite the fact that Cap swore the blackout was all of Zemo’s doing.  White Wolf tries to take the Wakandan key but is arrested before he leaves. During the scuffle, Zemo is able to take the key and the shield and return them to their rightful owners. The next stop? The shrouded temple.

Our Take

I gotta admit, the plot of this week’s episode was one of the best I’ve seen of this series. We got twists and turns RIGHT up until the end that had me guessing so much so that I was convinced Zemo was taking off with that Shield and key. Unfortunately, we got every major character design flaw lumped into one episode. I just can’t get over how ugly Ape-Man, White Wolf, and Zemo are, and how completely uninspiring the art direction for this show is. The big fight scene had awful choreography that saw White Wolf climbing through the ceiling like monkey bars and hand to hand combat that was sloppy and ill-timed. The technical flaws in this show are so powerful that they ruin the one week the producers put together a decent plot, and this, pray-tell, is the problem with the Disney-animated TV series.
