Review: Lucas Bros Moving Company ”Soul Food”

Spoilers Below

The Brothers need to win a cook-off with the local barber shop for the Small Business Association, so they kill themselves to get their soul back as the missing ingredient for their souls. Turns out, the guys sold their souls so that they can beat Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat. The guys kill themselves, head to hell, and meet up with Satan whom challenges the two to beat Sub-Zero in exchange for their souls back. The guys win after hurling some quick hot sauce, then end up back on Earth where they beat the barber shop in the soul food cook-off as judged by Jerrod.

Mortal Kombat X comes out in a few weeks, and what a better way of remembering the game’s history than with an episode of The Lucas Bros. Moving Company! I’m always enamored with different studios’ takes on hell, and Lucas Bros. is no different. Is the Friends Night studio on the same level as say a Superjail or South Park when it comes to their interpretation of the underworld? No, but the fact that we are talking up these comparisons says a lot. Where this show makes its bacon is in the writing where despite the fact that the episode could have gone down the drain with run-of-the-mill ideas about contests, these guys go to hell and fight Sub-Zero. I would think Scorpion would’ve been the better choice to fight in hell seeing as how Scorpion lives in hell, but I can’t really complain here. Satan seems like a pretty chill guy, and I hope we see him again, too.

This could be the best animated series on TV.
