Review: Kirby Buckets ”Flice of the Living Dead”

 Spoilers Below

It’s Halloween and the kids are chilling and watching scary movies, but Kirby Buckets isn’t scared of shit. Fish gets his phone taken away for watching video in school by a principal that looks like he should’ve been in Fast Times in Ridgemont High. The girls get invited to a party, and the jerk off science teacher started an outbreak of ‘Flice’. This means that the school is going to be on lock down which means if Kirby doesn’t get out he’s gonna miss his favorite scary movie festival. The guys try to escape, but Dawn Buckets slams the door on everyone’s chances of getting out.

The only way the guys can get out of school is if they get buzz cuts so as to not spread Flice. Some of the kids are already infected. Meanwhile, we come to find out that the girls were invited to a party hosted by little kids and at first it seems lame, but Dawn can’t seem to escape the little guys’ charm. Back at school, Eli tells the guys about a secret escape route, so Kirby runs for it as a sacrifice so his friends can leave safely. Quick cut to Dawn getting rejected by the kids, and now we’re back to seeing Eli and Fish escape. Fish gets a bunch of his confiscated shit back, but Kirby gets corned in the janitor’s closet by a bunch of zombies.

Eli and Fish decide to build some goo guns so as to get rid of the zombies, and soon Kirby joins the fray in helping rid the halls of scary people. Back at the party, Dawn has a dance off with one of the girls so as to prove that she’s all business, but then Evan comes downstairs to find out what’s up. We return to the school, and after trapping the zombies, Kirby and the boys are able to fight off the principal long enough before help arrives. But, then Fish starts scratching.

Not only is Disney XD’s Kirby Buckets the best directed live-action series on all of the Disney Channels, but I dare you to scan Nickelodeon, ABC Family, and Cartoon Network for anything close to this. You aren’t going to find it, simply put. This week we get a version of The Walking Dead but made for a younger-viewing audience. The dialogue is pretty stellar with Eli, Fish, and Kirby playing off of each other in a number of different and hilarious ways. Even the somewhat generic subplot featuring the girls get invited to Evan’s brothers’ party was highlighted with a mess of one-liners thrown all over the place. I’m not sure about the creepy principal, or the lack of cartoons this time around, but I am sure about one thing…Kirby Buckets could be the best show no one is talking about right now.
