Review: Incredible Edible America “Deliciously Dallas”
Now I need food.
This week’s episode of Incredible Edible America sees Jeff and his wife Audrey go to Texas where they head to Cattleback BBQ for some ribs and three meat sandwiches, then they head to Maple Leaf Diner for some chicken fried steak waffles, and finally, Woodshed Steakhouse for Smoked Chocolate Pie and Beef Shin. At the end, we get some cameos from Walter and Bubba J and we also get a Peanut clip thrown in there for good measure.
Our Take
Warning: Do NOT watch this show while hungry. Though, you could say that for any series on Food Network, it was especially true here. That said, I’ve watched a lot of food shows, and Food Network series, and Incredible Edible America doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. It’s like a Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives rip off and if you think I’m buying the fact that Audrey is a food blogger and that’s an expertise…NOPE! Give me a chef, give me someone who has been IN the industry for a lot of years, I’ll trust those people on what to eat. And Audrey’s inexperience shows, at best, she’s reading back the ingredients that the chef is telling her while cooking it and isn’t all that great at describing what she’s eating. Jeff at least brings a comedic quality to the series, but you can tell he’s been asked to be “rated PG” Jeff, not his usual stand-up self.
Short of getting Roiland back, which I'm sure isn't going to happen, I don't even think they could get much better than the new voices from the previous season. And the ratings for season 7 weren't much lower on average than for season 6; it was pretty much just a normal season-to-season drop that most likely would have happened regardless.
I mean, look at the actual averages:
Season 1 - 1.57 million viewers Season 2 - 1.97 million viewers Season 3 - 2.33 million viewers Season 4 - 1.52 million viewers Season 5 - 0.96 million viewers Season 6 - 0.56 million viewers Season 7 - 0.42 million viewers
Ever since season 3, it had been having steep drops even with Roiland still involved; the season 6 to 7 drop is actually the smallest-percentage drop it's had since it started dropping, and if anything it's possible that changing the voice actors actually *boosted* interest a bit and prevented it from dropping even more.
