Review: Hotel Transylvania: The Series “The Legend of Pumpkin Guts”

Got guts?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

The episode starts off with every monster within the Hotel being strictly kept under lockdown within their quarters as Halloween has begun and it’s considered to be an unspoken bad thing to the monster community but Mavis being fed up with no clear answers to why decides out of curiosity to investigate.

Much of the episode is spent on Dracula also sneaking out of the council primarily to save Mavis and explains to her that a Kaiju-sized pumpkin creature called “Pumpkin Guts” awakens and causes havoc whenever monsters are out and about during this particular holiday. The two find an unusual solution to stop the creature in the form of the Hotel’s fervently anti-monster human neighbor Kitty, and the episode ends in a Ferris Bueller kinda way when Mavis and Dracula carefully sneak back to their respective places without any consequences to their actions.

Our Take

David Berni consistently does an excellent job replicating Adam Sandler’s performance as “Dracula” and the animation for Pumpkin Guts as a towering Jack-O-Lantern monster covered in green flames was well-produced.
