Review: Hotel Transylvania “Adventures in Vampiresitting/Phlegm Ball”

Don’t tell dad the babysitter’s still here.

Hotel Transylvania clocks in another stupendous pair of episodes. In “Adventures in Vampiresitting,” Mavis (Bryn McAuley) disguises herself as a human and masquerades as a babysitter. This, of course, does not go as planned.

The mother of the baby Mavis is caring for is the author of Monsters are not our Friends. But it seems that Hank (Gage Munroe), Pedro (Joseph Motiki), and Wendy (Evyn Rosen) are just as frightened of humans as they are of monsters. Though she’s sent out to spy on humans, Mavis accidentally babysits. Until the real babysitter arrives and tips off mommy.

In “Phlegm Ball,” Mavis and friends chat with Claus, Mavis’s cousin. Claus aspires to show that he’s the most competent at playing a game, phlegm ball. I really enjoy the format and core cast of characters. Its animation is pleasing and almost has a bit of an update Scooby-Doo vibe. However, the musical segments are a bit distracting. Moreover, these last for an awkwardly short time period.

Still, music segments are few and far between. Additionally, aspects like phlegm ball show human activities like basketball but how they are in the monster universe. It’s fun learning more about the monster realm and seeing how the main cast of characters interact in various situations. There’s a neat campy vibe which makes Hotel Transylvania: The Series fun to watch.
