Review: Harvey Beaks “The Late Late Afternoon Show with Harvey Beaks; The Grunicorn”

If I had a wish, I would wish for three more wishes.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The Late Late Afternoon Show with Harvey Beaks

Harvey Beaks is hosting his own talk show in his living room with his friends as his guests/producers, his parents as audience members, and his sister as punch lines for jokes. In the middle of what seems to be an entertaining show, we learn that everyone’s been invited to Princess’ upcoming party except Harvey because the host didn’t invite Princess on his show. Don’t worry, it gets all straightened out and everyone’s good.

The Grunicorn

There’s a race among the kids to get access to a Grunicorn that can grant wishes. The final two challengers are Rooter and Fee, but neither of them finds anything, however, they do bond while sitting in a hole and we find out that there’s something a bit deeper to Fee than the normal girl not afraid of the world.

Our Take

For my money, “The Grunicorn” was a bit too cliche for me. Right away I think of “The Great Pumpkin Charile Brown” in terms of similarities as it pertains to plot, but “The Late Late” episode was quite a bit better. I loved how the producers actually did the opening credits like a talk show, and how they managed to fit the plot conflict inside a premise that had nothing to do with happening internal, so the viewer really had no idea what was going on in terms of why Princess was upset with Harvey. If I had a wish? I wish for another season of Harvey on episodes just like that.
