“Photo Finished” 

Miriam discovers the joys of posting pics of her kids on an Instagram-like app that actually features an awards system that comes with perks to the social handles with the cutest pics. She soon gets into it with Dr. Roberts and the two have a competition that goes a little too far and even gets their kids in danger. Fortunately, everyone comes to their senses and realize that safety is more important than a squabble over social media.

“Swashbuckling”

The kids are playing pirates up in a tree in a small boat when Randl decides to cut the tree down in an attempt to sell the boat. Fortunately, he comes around and instead decides to join the kids on a pirate adventure that ends rather quickly as the boat sinks.

Our Take

I think the social media bent in “Photo Finished” is beneath this show, and it’s quite obvious when you watching “Swashbuckling” directly after. The former of the two episodes is a premise we’ve seen countless times with a dozen number of apps, and I’ve never been one to buy into anyone in this show being TRULY selfish, so I can’t get behind it. “Swashbuckling” on the other hand, is yes, a typical Randl episode, but a good one. Marc Maron’s one of the best voice actors on the show and he really had to showcase a range here as part of the plot and I think he did a great job of doing so.
