Review: Gary And His Demons “Heavy Metal”

More like Winger.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week’s episode of Gary And His Demons sees Hanley make new friends with these kids who are all into the folk arts lifestyle. We come to find out that the kids and all of the fans for a folk music band are in fact demons and Gary’s gotta kill them all.

Our Take

Being a die-hard fan of heavy metal, I was expecting a really fun episode to take on. Unfortunately, the premise of the episode lagged all the way through, and most of the take on the genre was rather cliche and lacking of any real insight. Even the few action sequences presented were rather lame as well. Gary And His Demons isn’t aging that well, and that’s disheartening. I was really enjoying the series when it was a bit more about learning about Gary’s past and getting revenge for his dead wife, but there doesn’t seem to be an end game here in terms of any compelling story arc. The really good streaming shows require story arcs to really make the series stand out from the back, and I’m hoping with the last few episodes set to go for the show’s first season we see some more compelling material. Gary’s insane tirade near the end kind of lifted the whole episode to that of lackluster status, but we’re gonna need to see more.
