Review: Gary And His Demons “Gary And His New Life”

Oh, Gary…

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The season finale of Gary And His Demons sees a decidedly bored Gary returning to his old demon-hunting stomping grounds to just stop by and say hi. His hand-picked chosen one “Tucker” seems to be doing great in taking his place and, as a result, Gary has to refind the peace in being retired for good. Unfortunately, that all goes down the drain when Tucker drunkenly falls off a cliff and becoming paralyzed from every part of his body thereby rendering him useless for bounty hunting. This means Gary is back in the demon hunting biz for the next 15 years.

Our Take

That’s about the way this season should’ve ended, and we’ll get into more specifics on the overall season in our season review, but if there was any chance a series called Gary And His Demons was going to get a second season, something like this plot was going to have to happen. The fight scenes, though short, were well-done, especially Tucker’s more ultra-charged version of powering up to take on demons.

That said, I think the show would have benefited a little more if we had a bit more creative of an arc in which the finale was going to come to a head. Essentially something a bit more drawn out in a few episodes to really feel the pinch of Gary not being a demon hunter anymore only for him to have to come back. A couple of extra episodes with Tucker would’ve been fun, and the writers could’ve really pulled on the heartstrings of the die-hard Gary fans to get a better finish, even if it was scripted this exact same way.

All in all, I can’t complain. Gary And His Demons finishes its season on a high note and with me wanting a second go. We’ll get into more as to why there should be a second season in our season review coming next week!
