Review: Fugget About It ” Wet, Hot, Amphibious Summer”

Summer is just around the corner. No more shoveling driveways or worrying about frost bite. Instead we can worry about mowing the lawn and sun burns! Still, I think after a long Winter, even the biggest fans of the snow can find joy in a warm Summer day. On last night’s Fugget About It, Petey decides to get himself a Summer job. How was the episode? Read on to find out!

In “Wet, Hot,  Amphibious” Summer, Petey gets a Summer job at the tourism bureau, but quickly becomes Jimmy’s boss.

This was an alright episode. I think I’ve seen a little too much of Petey this season. He’s sort of the Meg character for me. It isn’t just the glasses, but he’s so unlike any other character on the show, he sometimes doesn’t mesh with the tone of the show. I usually enjoy him quite a bit, I think being different than the other characters is a great thing 99% of the time. He’s a breath of fresh air. However, this week I think I just hit a wall of Petey exhaustion. This week we saw him take on some responsibility and ending up in a position of power.

Petey being the boss was exactly what I expected it to be. Well-meaning, but too young to really grasp the responsibility of a leadership position. We saw a different relationship between Jimmy and Petey this week. That’s something that’s always welcome in my book. Taking something that we’re accustomed to and flipping it on it’s head. It’s pretty simple to do and it changes the dynamic of the characters entirely. It’s instant refreshment and if written well, it also makes for an entertaining half hour. Luckily, this episode was written very well. A lot of the jokes landed well, the characters were interesting to follow for the most part, and the story was pretty engaging.

The faults in the episode were minimal. I thought the first act of the episode was kind of slow, but it lead to an entertaining second and third act. The story felt too predictable. It sort of felt like we were just going through the motions. A little uninspired, but I laughed quite a bit.

Overall, I had a pretty decent time with this episode. I’m a little back and forth on certain things But the overall experience was one that I did enjoy. After this episode I do think I need a bit of a Petey cleanse. But if you’ve enjoyed Petey episodes up until this point, I think this will be up your ally.
