Review: Fugget About It “Vengeance Wore a Unitard”

Fugget About It returned last night with an all-new episode. For the most part, I think this season has been pretty strong. Probably my least favorite of the three, but I think some of the strongest episodes of the series are in this season. Was last night’s episode among them? Read on to find out!

In “Vengeance Wore a Unitard” Carlo Gambini locates the Falcones in Regina and Gina is forced to choose to side with a boy she likes or save Uncle Cheech.

Right off the bat I just have to say, this was an okay episode. Not one of the best of the season, not really one of the worst either. There are some interesting parallels we see in this episode. Gina is sort of put in the same position her dad once was and she must choose between Uncle Cheech or something else she holds dear. I’ll definitely give the episode points for that, because it really felt like we were taking the story full circle. History repeating itself, if you will. The problem is that this entire episode feels like something we just saw a few months ago in a similar episode where we saw Gina falling for a boy from the old life.

I thought the jokes this episode didn’t connect with me well. They were very hit and miss this week. It was another episode where the old life nearly catches up to them, but not quite. I used to like these episodes a lot because flirting with the idea of being caught always brought a fun tension to the show. Now it’s just seems routine. Perhaps actually getting caught one of these days could give the show a chance to reinvent itself, much in the same way Archer does.

Overall, if this were one of the earlier episodes this season, I think I would have enjoyed it more. But going from a relaxed viewer to trying to think critically about what is being presented to me, the cracks become a little more noticeable. It’s like an acrobat doing an insane flip of some kind. The first few times will really entertain you, but then once you see it for the sixth or seventh time, you kind of wish you could see something else. There were some pretty good things in this episode. I thought the story was actually pretty interesting, there were also a few good jokes. While this episode wasn’t for me, I think die-hard fans will find a lot of enjoyment in this.
