Review: Ducktales “The Trickening!”

Overview

The McDuck kids forego their usual trick-or-treat path and instead, embark on exploring the most haunted house in Duckburg, while Launchpad confronts ghosts from the past…

Our Take

Within both subplots, It takes quite a fun direction while moving at a decent pace. As the kids display their unique costumes, they decide to check out what’s said to be a haunted house that reportedly contains the ultimate stash of candy, while much of Launchpad’s storyline is easily some of the funniest in terms of absurdist humor at how he blows things out of proportion which isn’t helped by Della Duck encouraging his paranoid behavior while Donald is trying to clarify what he’s seeing isn’t what it seems. local trick or treater kids along with Scrooge who I’m shocked is just as in the Halloween spirit.

The twist itself felt like a loving tribute to both modern and classic horror characters on both sides of the spectrum, while the voice guest stars surprised me a bit such as Selma Blair, Clancy Brown and James Marsters who’s particular performance stood out to me the most as I didn’t even recognize it was him.

As a whole, this was a passable Halloween episode with some fun visual gags scattered about in the background which should reward upon repeat viewings and a fun movie reference at the end to top it all off. The only thing I found jarring is that it tried to be festive with a Halloween version of the Ducktales theme within the intro but didn’t change the intro animation which would’ve been visually interesting if they did, like a Simpsons “Treehouse of Horror” episode would usually do.
