English Dub Review: Death Parade “Suicide Tour”

I am sitting here, writing the review of “Suicide Tour,” and I am floored. The hook of “Suicide Tour” hit deep and hard, because there has been a lot of people who have died, and even for the people who were alive, they beg for a second chance. Here, Chiyuki is given a choice. Push a button on the wand, and come back to life, or, go back to Quindecim, and either go up or down. Every single action that Decim has taken, has lead to this moment. What made it even more poignant? Decim even went so far as to recreate Chiyuki’s life so she can be judged. He is finally feeling, and let out emotions.

I don’t say this very often, especially with anime. With only 12 episodes so far, you feel such a connection to both Decim, as well as Chiyuki. Most anime is all about the most sensational action, or outlandish arrangements, that there is no sense of belief. At the end of “Suicide Tour,” Chiyuki made her choice, and to make her own final judgment. Again, Decim shows that he can do an emotion, and this time, it’s happy. This hit me hard, and I have no real reason why.

Well, this is something that I wasn’t expecting. Death Parade, and the production company Madhouse, are masterpieces. Everything was wrapped up in a neat, tidy box. Oculus wasn’t as sinister as he was perceived to be over the last couple of weeks, and managed to put everything back to place. Chiyuki was able to finally find closure and be judged, so that’s that. From top to bottom, Death Parade has been nothing short of phenomenal. From the writing, to the animations, to the voice cast, all the way to the choices in themes, everything was just so damn perfect. Part of me wishes there was going to be a season two, but I don’t think there is any way a second season could compare to the first.
