Review: Crash and Bernstein ‘Health-O-ween’

Spoilers Below

It’s Halloween and both Crash and Bernstein have the spooky spirit. Apparently, Wyatt is so good at pranking that Pesto thinks he can get into a secret society made just for pranksters. Back at school the kids are told that scaring isn’t allowed without prior consent.

Cleo and Wyatt want to go to school to protest the rules, and we also learn that Amanda is the bestest prankster ever…odd. Apparently, the school has a council called P.O.O.P. led by Gretchen and from the looks of it she’s having her way with the kids but then Crash shows up and causes the council to take away costumes, candy, AND pranks. This inspires Gretchen to come up with ‘Health-O-Ween’ where kids get veggies instead of candy.

With all of this going on, Wyatt has no chance of getting into the secret society. Crash and the gym teacher eventually find all of the candy, but of course Crash eats it all. This causes the kids to go nuts and turn him into a pinata and yea he gets strung up and smashed. Gretchen drops her folder while walking past and we learn that she wants to take ‘Health-O-Ween’ national but not before the Nightmare society leaves Wyatt a note looking for a meeting. We learn the nightmare society is made up of the gym teacher, a bunch of old guys, and yes Amanda. They all tell Wyatt that he has to save Halloween.

To help win the battle, the kids put together a prank that sees Gretchen pulling Crash’s head out of her bag. The kids chase Gretchen into a room and scare the shit out of her. Worse yet, they turn her into a witch and she quits her job/ Halloween is saved

I like the different sets the show is starting to employ like different parts of the school and of course the abandoned whatever the kids found last week. However, Aaron Landon just drags this show in terms of acting ability and it’s shown all over the place. Oana Gregory (Amanda) was pretty good, but I’m not used to her being so nice. Yea she was pranking, but usually her attitude is on better display. The other members of the Nightmare Society that usually aren’t part of the main or recurring cast were maybe some of the worst actors I’ve ever seen not named Aaron Landon which is not good company to be in. The actual direction of the show was MUCH better than the premier, but you can tell there is still some experimentation going on that doesn’t make any sense, key example when the kids run into the candy room. Gretchen was pretty fantastic, but the end scene was put together rather lazily and worse yet was a stretch in terms of credulous setup.
