Review: Craig of the Creek “Lost in the Sewer”

Get lost!

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

Craig, Kelsey, and JP are invited by The Sewer Queen (Voiced by Karen Fukuhara) to map their sewers, but after a mishap where the Queen ends up missing due to a series of sewer floods, Craig quickly finds himself in over his head while searching for her.

Our Take

It’s refreshing to see a recurring character return, especially one who was introduced in the show’s pilot such as the Sewer Queen. We do get some backstory from her about how she became one, along with how her sewer society was created. Despite the complex structure and the unknown dangers within the sewers, Craig seems more than willing to delve deep into the venture forth when necessary as he even wears plastic shopping bags on his feet for protection at one point.

For an underground sewer, the scenery is quite lively, but at times is also complex & foreboding in places with moments full of tension when Craig and the others venture into the unknown, complete with moments of Doubt from Kelsey’s inner-monologues.

If there’s any lesson the episode tried to convey, it’s that sometimes leadership isn’t about having all the answers, but stepping up when nobody else will, and learning to think things through before taking action.

Above all, while the ending was slightly predictable, part of me kinda felt bad for JP near the end. I don’t know if they’ll ever touch upon this in later episodes, but “Lost in the Sewer” serves as a welcoming addition to the show’s expanding universe as we see how far the Sewer Kingdom functions and extends beyond the pilot episode.
