REVIEW: CHINA, IL ‘DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU LOOK LIKE??’

Spoilers [Below] Are Fine-a In China

I KNEW that I recognized that dude’s voice from somewhere. The voice of Carabba in this episode is totally the dude from Ancient Aliens (a show my Dad and brother both drool over and which I make fun of them for). I actually enjoyed the fact that they made this super obvious rather than not. Ancient Aliens homey plays Carabba, which I’m fairly sure is the name of an Italian restaurant chain, and he actually does a great job. Lately I haven’t been a fan of guest voices on my favorite toons, but this one was just ridiculous in its delivery enough to work.

I’m going to say this once and then I really shouldn’t again unless things change: the voice of Pony / her sub-plots really don’t do anything for me. Now I don’t want to shit all over this poor girl’s life, but I am basically enduring her on screen time. Really its also the same case for the Spanish teacher, so seeing as this episode found them paired – you can guess my reaction. No bueno #IntentionalPun. Maybe it’s just that the animation style / voice pairing doesn’t work well, maybe they just aren’t relate-able characters, or maybe I’m just a sexist fuckhead who doesn’t know hes sexist. Whatever the case is, for me, these Pony subplots, I don’t want no more – but I expect them to keep coming, so that’s not great (for me).

Plot wiz-ise here we gots: Steve and Carabba lookin’ the same and fucks’in with each other, Pony being forced to finally learn Spanish [this was the Hellen Keller ‘ish that John was tawkin’ bout in the preview], and Frank tries to bone this new blonde teacher chick but ends up stuck with her SUPER cringe-worthy sister (brace yourself, it made my fucking skin crawl #UnintentionalPun).

So what do I think? Meh, not bad – not amazing. It’s a little too normal for my taste – I like my China eps to be way more wild, random, and ridiculous. Although I appreciate the Hellen Keller homage that one of five thousand kids will get, it really didn’t need to exist haha I mean it wasn’t that great.

That Ancient Aliens boy has a great voice.
