Review: China IL ‘Crow College’

Spoilers Below

The new yearbook is out, but the only one who really takes it seriously is Baby Cakes for being the most thoughtful. Everyone else seems to stop caring about a few minutes. Instead, The Dean brings in a bunch of crows as new students for Steve’s class, and as luck would have it they are smart as fuck. So smart as fuck, that they even solve Amelia Earhart’s disappearance after only a few classes.

We soon learn that The Dean wants the crows to eventually replace the present faculty as ‘Crow-fessors’. The rest of the faculty turn to Steve to try and fix this bull shit. The faculty tries a few things, eventually, they convince the crows to build something worthy of Da Vinci, but that ends up capturing them and leaving them point-blank for execution. The Dean decides to keep the personnel he has.

Meanwhile, Frank is trying to find out if Transfer Billy’s girlfriend Stacy has the hots for him after an arm touch, so he starts placing ads in the weekly magazine. Some confusion takes place as Frank tries to leave clues that are so isolated there shouldn’t be any confusion as to what Frank wants. Problem is, Stacy’s remarks are rather vague references to the ad, and the ad responses Frank DOES get that seem legit are unwarranted. Frank eventually comes clean to Billy and Stacy that he wants to fuck her but Stacy comes off like a cheating slut to Billy so he makes everyone leave his house.

Our Take

A more typical episode of China IL than prior weeks as we get something that’s a tad more school-centric. That said, the entirety of Steve’s plot felt like a Quentin Tarantino-produced affair and was executed flawlessly. The birds were so damn funny, especially while watching them solve all of these different problems and building all sorts of shit in flocks. When that final scene hits, it’s just as powerful as Django’s key gun scenes and written even funnier.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Baby Cakes and Frank were able to keep up on their own. Cakes’ bit was kind of more annoying than anything else, and Frank’s deal seemed like a standard variety trope that has grazed both Steve and Frank on numerous occasions. In any event, this is the most we’ve seen of The Dean all season, coupled with Steve’s contributions, Crow College gets passing grades.
