Review: Cat Agent “Cat String Mew Mew”

Wait for it…

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week’s series or season finale (depending on who you ask) sees Cat Agent having to break up with Tom Hanks’ Cat and instead become her manager after the horrible treatment she had received by way of Cat Manager. As a result, Cat Agent rounds up the gang and begins his agency anew.

Our Take

You know what the problem is with the way this episode played out? It didn’t matter. Cat Agent had only dated Tom Hanks’ Cat for a week, so there’s not a lot of tug on the heart string…or “Cat String” for when the break happens. Same goes for the return of Cat Agent’s co-workers and with Cat Agent being out of work. I think if the producers would’ve started the season off with a bunch of these arcs as the show’s foundation and then finale this way, I would’ve had more of an emotional investment on all the crazy shit that went down in the finale. Instead, it was a lot of….meh in terms of plot delivery.

Fortunately, the humorous dialogue is still very much intact and we’ll go over more about the future of the franchise in the season review, but while there are some good ideas for what could potentially be for next season, I couldn’t help but think the people in charge of writing the actual story/plot of the series could’ve done something that more warrants a premium streaming service nod. Today, the franchise feels more like a good step above the Youtube amateur level talent but is nowhere near the value-add for a streaming service that say a BoJack Horseman or a similar series brings to the fray.
