Review: Bravest Warriors “Dan of Future Past”

Cartoon Hangover’s Bee & Puppycat won best series of the 2016 year by Bubbleblabber…and it already looks like Bravest Warriors is following suit.

Spoilers Below

Chris has been hurled into the past, where he is sort of rescued by Danny as a kid. Suddenly, a hologram named Concierge shows up to tell Chris that he needs to get back to his timeline or he risks Danny and Beth smooching! Chris can stop the juicy tongue kiss but only if he leaves immediately. Concierge takes Chris to New Miami to find the Eternity Rift. Danny follows him, which is lucky since the doors to New Miami are locked and Danny has a matter re-bubbler that allows them to pass right through it. However, kid Danny is a bit of a nerd and he keeps getting beat up by bullies.

The Eternity Rift turns out to be a janky billboard. Before he can go through it, the arcade (which is a living being) is taken over by memories from the Emotion Sword Chris is carrying. The arcade hallucinates his mean grandmother and tries to steal the Sword to kill her. Instead, Chris stabs him in the heart with the Sword. It makes the arcade forgive his grandmother. He runs away happily.

Just then, the train to Danny’s Science Fair shows up. Chris is injured and, at first, Danny won’t leave him. But Chris makes him leave since Danny was really looking forward to it. Chris was about to jump into the Rift when he sees the New Miami Hacker Pack on the Science Fair train. In Chris’s original timeline, the Hacker Pack destroyed Danny’s Science Fair project. Despite Concierge’s objections, Chris runs off to save Danny from the bullies.

On the way to the Science Fair, an armada of Emotion Lord hunters finds Chris. They want the Emotion Sword. Chris pleads to the hunters to allow him to defeat Danny’s bullies.

At the Science Fair, the hackers use a repression field on the Sword, negating its powers. Then they make Chris vomit everywhere. Until the hunters show up and blast the hackers to bits. Yeah, they still want the Sword. But Danny’s Science Fair project is a time machine that can send Chris back to his own timeline. It does take a few minutes to warm up first. Before the hunters can blast Chris to bits, the Courageous Battlers (the parents of the Bravest Warriors) show up to protect their planet. Just as Chris gets teleported away, he gets a glimpse of his mom.

It’s so nice to have the Bravest Warriors back, even though all we saw was Chris. I’m so glad that Chris stuck around to save Danny from his bullies. Granted, this means that current-timeline-Danny will be a completely different person. It will be interesting to see how many things will change in the future thanks to Chris’s meddling. Definitely a great way to being a new season for a sorely missed show.
