Spoilers Below

Bob wants to get a perfect present for his wife Linda, and the kids wanna help with the cost of not wanting to go to school while Linda holds down the fort at the restaurant in an attempt to get Mort and Teddy into some speed dating so they can find the perfect one. As it turns out, the kids have no idea what to get for their mother it was just a ruse so that their dad can get them out of school. And of course, the kids dragged Bob to the mall where everything his hella expensive which causes Bob to think twice about which present to get for Linda.

Apparently,  Bob realizes the perfect gift he can get Linda is an old-school love tester at one of the town’s dive bars. As luck would have it, Hugo is at that very bar that used to call the Love Tester home, but the machine has since been sold of which the health inspector knows exactly where. But, guess what? He’s not telling! As a result, the kids tell their dad to follow Hugo to his next inspection in an attempt to locate the machine. Meanwhile, back at the restaurant, the speed dating thing seems to be going swell for Linda and her friends, but when Sgt.  Bosco comes in looking for a fugitive on the run,  he kind of starts to take over with ridiculous suggestions to add to the event.

Bob and the kids end up at the Taco Hut where Hugo is, but the love tester isn’t at the restaurant. Luckily, Hugo’s partner Ron is there to give the Belchers the list of places where they are going so as to narrow down their search. When we get to the last locale, Hugo is there and guess what? He buys the love tester!  However, every man’s got a price and Hugo has his…$500! Yep, and Bob pays it. But, that’s not the worst of it because as it turns out Bob mixed up memories and the tester isn’t from his and Linda’s date, its from a previous girlfriend! However, impressing Linda might be a moot point because she is in the midst of getting thrown in the slammer by the Sarge.. Why? Well, Linda tried to take Bosco’s gun which is against the law. Before she leaves, Bob tells Linda what happened but she takes it as the best gift ever. Also, Bosco gets a call about the other fugitive and takes off, but we find out that was Louise’s gift to Lynn.

This week’s Bob’s definitely had me feeling fuzzy, too because it reminded me of how lovable this series can get. With his time on Archer we never really had a good chance of hearing Jon Benjamin do many lovey dovey stuff for a woman he loves, so it must be refreshing for the Emmy nominated actor to do different types of stories with Bob.  The story itself was rather cliched and to be honest I believe Homer has marked this territory on more than one occasion. But, when you add in the quirky styling and one liners coming from the kids it really does spice things up. That said, despite the brilliance of Gary Cole being on hand, I felt Linda’ plot was rather tepid at best and for me kinda kept getting in the way of Bob and the kids’ story line. Also, I think anyone paying attention could have caught the plot about a mile away, but overall this valentine remains a keeper.

thumbs up
