Review: Aroha Bridge “Legally M’Orange”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Kowhai gets inspired by a legal procedural series on television ala Law & Order and wants to be a lawyer herself. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the education just yet so she applies to countless schools to try and get in only to get constant rejection. Opportunity arises when Noogy gets kicked out of a store and eventually brought to trial for a late fine. Working against Kowhai is her twin brother Monty who wants his basement TV back that’s been on lockdown with Kowhai watching her marathons with the two making the agreement that should Monty win he gets his room back. After getting a restraining order from the law schools and a copyright notice from her favorite show for using their scripts in her proceedings defending Noogy, she opts out of her pursuit for a law practice.

Our Take

I loved this week’s episode because it’s so true even here in the States. The Law & Order die-hards friggin’ LOVE the show and they watch it all day coming out as “experts”. The premise of the episode works really, really, well. Very original, even if some of the plot points surrounding Noogy and Monty’s inclusion were a little rough around the edges, the episode gets enough correct that I kinda didn’t care.  There’s a lot of heart in this series and it shows on every scene that I think resonates with audiences no matter where they are.

The series checks in again with even more local political strife, Noogy’s eventual trial being the climax for the bit and it’s one of the most fascinating part of the series and one of the strengths of adult animation being dubbed for English. Everyone watching will certainly see similarities to NZ life and Western civilization. It’s paramount, and very well done.

Watch Aroha Bridge.
