REVIEW: AMERICAN DAD “Blood Crieth Unto Heaven”

I know nothing about ‘August: Osage County” which apparently was the clear inspiration for tonight’s episode of American Dad, but the plot was pretty basic. Basically, Stan thought that his mother had cheated on his dad and that’s why he flipped out and ended up in jail, but really that never happened. We had another plot with Roger as ‘Edna’smooching up Avery, but to be honest I wasn’t particularly interested in it. Why?? Both plots took a back seat tonight for me as I couldn’t get over the sheer presentation of how American Dad was put together tonight. No joke, the producers did everything in their right mind to make this episode feel as close to a real life play as possible and it comes off as a pretty incredible achievement and at the very least should be considered a pretty daring attempt that works out for the better.

You name it and this episode had it for its off-Broadway look. From the lights, to the moving stages, from the scripting and costumes, the AD crew did a fantastic job. I’m also happy about the fact that the writers didn’t just mail it in with like a musical because I’m sure it would’ve been fine for them to just ask the MacFarlanes to sing and dance, but instead we get a more down to Earth and fun effort that the whole team contributes putting together a worthwhile effort that certainly gets a standing ovation from me. Also, Patrick Stewart sort of hosting the ordeal certainly was just the icing on the cake, and if offered again I would certainly take seconds.
