Review: Allen Gregory “Gay School Dance”

Spoilers Below

So, I guess to start things off Patrick is now Allen Gregory’s personal assistant? Allen thinks hes friends with bully, Joel Zadak despite being at the end of Joel’s brutal treatment. But, for whatever reason Allen wants to ask Zadak to a gay dance that Richard is putting together for the school. As a result, Allen makes Patrick call Zadak to coerce him into going to the dance to which he declines and decides to go with Patrick instead but really the bullies just want to embarrass Patrick in front of the whole school. Jules hates the gay dance idea and wants to stop it so she gets the Principal on her side after some inside information about the bullies’ plot comes to fruition which is to pull down Pats pants i front of everyone. When Allen finds out too he decides to go to the dance to try to stop it.

Jeremy found a job! Hes the DJ for a local bowling alley but when Rich comes up with an idea to put on a gay dance, he turns a blind-eye to Jeremy’s DJ’ing skills. But, when Rich goes to the school to pitch the gay dance idea to students, they want in but with Jeremy as DJ and to drop the gay part but not before Rich convinces Gottlieb to do it. Despite Jeremy doing a good job as a DJ, Rich tries everything to stop him and goes as far as to getting Jeremy fired from his steady gig.

Our Take

Overall, this was a good episode of Allen Gregory mainly because it looked like it was directed and scored similarly to a film(this is the direction that I think could really help the show become successful), using music to help tell the story, and create an atmosphere that sets us up for a positive moral to a show that is usually weighed down with a lot of negativity and name-calling. And, I actually hope that in weeks to come we continue to see the growth of Allen’s friendship with Patrick, as I really thing Patrick can be a bigger part of the show and maybe act as a “angel on the left shoulder” type character that can maybe guide Allen to make better decisions. Not likely, but one would hope. PS on a totally unrelated note, Allen Gregory may now have the best intro music in the business…
