Reddit AMA Recap: Jenna Elfman on “Imaginary Mary”

If this show gets a second season, Jenna Elfman deserves a MONSTER raise.

If you can believe it, next week we’ll be a little under half-way through the freshman ABC comedy, Imaginary Mary which airs Tuesday Nights @ 930 pm ET/PT. But, kudos to Jenna Elfman on single-handedly trying to keep the show alive both as an actress and as a celebrity as this week alone she’s been on Conan and a part of this Reddit AMA session for which we have highlights for below:

On how Jenna acts with “Mary” on set.

So we rehearse with a puppet and a puppeteer so we know where everyone is moving in the scene and then we film one take with the puppet so that the animators know where she moves in the scene and then when its time for actual scene its empty and everything goes away. There’s a comedic actress off screen reading lines.

On Jenna’s similarities/differences to her role as “Alice”

Alice and I have in common the fact that we are both interested in growing. I’m less fearful than Alice.

Her favorite thing about playing “Alice”

I love that there’s a big transition for her that I get to play where she starts off in such for foreign territory with this relationship and the kids and is kind of neurotic at first and gets to be vulnerable and uncomfortable and grow from that. I like that journey for her.

Her favorite scene in Imaginary Mary happened in last night’s episode. Here’s some behind-the-scenes notes about it.

The episode tonight has a fun scene where I’m at his little girl’s recital at school and I do some physical comedy where I rip a tissue a part and put in my ears that was not in the script. I made it up when were filming and thats when I feel extra happy when I’m doing comedy. Thats my favorite part when I get inspired and fun physical comedy comes out of me.

As mentioned, Imaginary Mary airs Tuesday Nights @ 930 pm ET/PT only on ABC, check your local listings.
