Recap: Housebroken Comic-Con@Home 2021

FOX’s latest addition to its Animation Domination block is literally off the leash. The cast and crew of Housebroken made their first-ever appearance at Comic-Con@Home for a Q&A that is sure to be a howling good time. The panel consists of voice actors Lisa Kudrow, Nat Faxon, Will Forte, Tony Hale, Sharon Horgan, Jason Mantzoukas, and Sam Richardson. Also joining them are Clea DuVall (co-creator, executive producer, voice actor) and co-creators, executive producers, and showrunners Gabrielle Allan and Jen Crittenden.

The panel kicked off with DuVall explaining how the show came to be. She stated that it came from one of her pet cats staring at her while watching television. DuVall thought about taking her cat to a counselor to see what it needs. She asked herself what the animals would talk about if they went to therapy instead of humans. DuVall also mentioned that one of her best experiences working on the show was the incredible cast that voiced its characters. As someone who watched Housebroken, I couldn’t help but agree with DuVall’s opinion.

The cast then explained the characters they voiced, their relationships, and how they wind up in Honey’s therapy session. This moment was pretty helpful for newcomers who are looking to get into the show themselves. They also shared their favorite storylines of the series so far. Kudrow’s favorite is Honey being a wild dog, and her crush with a wolf. Will Forte enjoyed Shel’s relationship with a shoe. Finally, Nat Faxon and Jason Mantzoukas shared their experiences performing table reads, working on the show during the pandemic, and voice acting.

While the Q&A panel is surprisingly 20 minutes long, the crew used that time wisely to share their thoughts on FOX’s recent animated series. If it’s successful enough to earn a season two, we could see more of them at next year’s Comic-Con either virtually or in person. Of course, it will strongly depend on how close we are to being free from the virus. The entire panel is available to watch on the Comic-Con International YouTube channel. Housebroken airs Monday nights on FOX.
