Political Cartoonist Rob Rogers Fired After 25 Years With Pitt Post-Gazette
Was it cost-cutting measures? An attempt to stay relevant in a dying medium?
Regardless, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s firing of liberal cartoonist Rob Rogers after 25 years is making all the news rounds. The New York Times notes that the paper is going conservative and as such probably fired the cartoonist as a way to lure a different fan base that is probably more attuned to newspapers nowadays anyway.
As it turns out, Rob was offered a freelance deal with the paper, but turned it down, but how many papers are looking for full-time political cartoonists anymore anyway? Rob could probably do better posting all his shit on Instagram and making money from merchandise. The Pulitzer Prize runner-up could certainly take advantage of the massive anti-Trump audience that lends itself more so to new media.
