Oni Press Has Big Plans for Rick and Morty #50

The largest Rick and Morty comic yet!

 

In the modern day of comic books, it is annoyingly rare for a series to continue for longer than a couple of years without being rebooted or cancelled.  What seems even more unusual is for a comic book based off of a television show to be considered successful.  Just last year we had to say goodbye to the long-running comic series based on The Simpsons.  But, the Rick and Morty phenomenon has seemingly carried over into other media as its own comic line has been flourishing.  And now, four years after the release of Rick and Morty #1 the series hits its first significant milestone.

 

On May 29, 2019, Oni Press will release Rick and Morty #50!

To celebrate Oni Press is not pulling any punches.  The 48-page issue will include 40 pages of story and a special introduction from Rick and Morty co-creator himself, Justin Roiland.  Additionally, what’s a big comic release without variant covers, of which Rick and Morty #50 will have five.  The main cover from Marc Ellerby and Sarah Stern, two connecting covers from top comic artist Matt Horak, and another two from Julieta Colá.

As for the story itself, a whole slew of writers are throwing in to create an issue that promises to be filled with many Rick and Morty memories.  Kyle Starks, Marc Ellerby, Andrew MacLean, Tini Howard, Jarrett Williams, Sarah Graley, Josh Trujillo, Rii Abrego, Benjamin Dewey, and Sarah Stern are all returning to add their own piece to the issue.

 

 

 

The fun doesn’t stop there.  Oni Press will also be rereleasing all five of the first issues in the series written by Zac Gorman.  Each with new covers Marc Ellerby and Sarah Stern that will connect to make one extended portrait.  Plus a lenticular cover of Rick and Morty #1 which will be exclusively sold at Awesome Con and on the Oni Press website on May 29th.

 

 

Our Take:

There is a long history of comic adaptations coming from adult animations, all which seem to find some sort of success thanks to the fans.  However, much like the show itself, there seems to be something different and unique about Rick and Morty comics.  If you have been keeping up with our reviews of the comics, you will know that each book goes above and beyond what is expected from the media.  With the show rolling into season four and for many more seasons to come, it should be assumed that this is the first of many monumental issues for the comic books.  In fact, with the success of Rick and Morty Presents, and Rick and Morty vs Dungeons and Dragons, who knows what kind of fun the publisher has in store for us.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited about this giant-sized issue.  It should be a can’t miss pick up for any fan of the show.  And, if you haven’t been keeping up with the books, this is a great time to get on board and pick up those alternate covers for the first five issues.  I’ve recommended the comics fifty times over, and I look forward to supporting them for fifty more.
