NYCC 2020: Netflix’s Seis Manos Panel

Seis Manos may be a series that dropped on Netflix over a year ago, but that does not mean it has left our minds. The Mexican themed anime was an instant hit for original style and attention to detail.

The first season of Seis Manos is set to be released on Blu-Ray on November 17th.

In anticipation for the release that will feature plenty of bonuses, the creators and talent behind the show have come together for a special virtual panel for New York Comic-Con (NYCC).

Of course, NYCC looks a little different this year, as does every major event of 2020. Thankfully, NYCC followed San Diego Comic-Con’s lead and took their show into our homes. The virtual comic-con features merchandise, significant announcements, and most importantly, a whole weekend full of exciting panels free of charge.

The Seis Manos panel brought together the masterminds of the show as well as some of the most integral talents. In attendance were co-creators Brad Graeber and Alvaro Rodriguez, writer Daniel Dominguez, director Willis Bulliner, and voice talents Jonny Cruz (Jesus) and Angelica Vale (Officer Garcia).

On deck for the panel included deep insights on how the show came to be and the influences that brought the entire thing together.

The deliberate premise for the series, Graeber admits, is that they wanted a series to showcase fight choreography, which Powerhouse Animation takes pride in.  Seis Manos was developed as a short teaser to represent the action and diverse choreography. Additionally, Mexican culture is close to many of the original producers and thus the show was born.

An important factor to Seis Manos’s success is the fact that Brad Graeber has an encyclopedic knowledge of martial arts. Mixed with his love for Grindhouse cinema, this series is built around his interests.

The music, orchestrated by Carl Theil, also plays an integral role in the series. Not just helping to build the world and emotion.

But many of the fight sequences were animated in cooperation with Theil’s music. The collaboration between the score and the animation was intentional and all the better for it.

Fans were hoping this panel would be the vessel for a season two announcement. Unfortunately, today was not the day, and fans will have to wait and see. Though we have insight that a second script does exist thanks to an exclusive Bubbleblabber interview with Graeber and Rodriguez from last year.
