Netflix #1 with internet streaming audiences but Amazon and Hulu are giving chase

If this were NASCAR….wait. No. I’m not going to do that to you. Fuck NASCAR. After the jump read why Netflix is numero uno!

According to, 80% of you peeps watching content online usually do so by watching lots of TV content versus say films which I’m guessing if you are anything like me you have HBO for that and I still purchase the Blu-Rays from time to time (PS the Cloud Atlas Blu-Ray is REALLY good).  But, according to the article, the number of people watching content online is growing with Netflix being the primary weapon of choice. That said, Hulu and Amazon are both gaining fast but it may be a while before they provide any REAL competition to Netflix.

That said in recent weeks we’ve been seeing a lot of industry happenings, right? A whole bunch of licensing partners left Netflix with some already finding new homes on Amazon. And everyone is looking at producing their own original content and right now Hulu is probably going to be getting my hard-earned dollars this summer as it rolls out new shows like The Awesomes and Mother Up! Usually when a space like this opens up, you only get three major players. For example the popular smartphones and tablets carry either Android, iOS, and now Windows (I expect Blackberry to actually launch an Android or Windows phone for those wondering). Home game console choices are XBOX, PS, and Nintendo (note, I didn’t name any mobiles). Speaking of Microsoft, their XBOX One is said to include original content in the future…can you see yourselves ponying up dough for both an XBOX TV service AND Netflix? The value is more on Netflix, but XBOX has a rather large installed base too, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Also, Hulu has potential buyers in Yahoo, can that change the field altogether? And let’s not forget about Youtube and their recent efforts in charging people for content.

How do you guys watch content? Mobile? At Home?? Which services do you prefer and why? Let us know in the comments below and be a part of the conversation.
