Our Take

This is quite a welcoming surprise. While a release date has yet to be provided, It’s it remains certain that Warner Bros. is aiming for a late summer 2021 debut, meaning little more than a few months’ wait is in order.

In terms of narrative, it’s easy to assume that Battle of the Realms will pick up directly where Scorpions Revenge left off. With Shao Kahn being less than thrilled at Shang Tsung’s failure in the tournament, And judging from the insane amount of characters making the cut in this new animated film. It feels like an amalgamation of MK2 and 3’s storylines with D’Vorah who previously made her debut in the MKX game being thrown into the mix. And if that’s the case, fans can likely look forward to an epic showdown between the forces of good and evil to decide mankind’s fate!

Mortal Kombat launched as a game in 1992 and has gone on to sell more than 49 million copies across dozen of games and expansions. Mortal Kombat was adapted as a live-action movie in 1995, with New Line unleashing a hard-R reboot earlier this year.

Battle of the Realms comes from Warner Bros. Animation in coordination with NeatherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It is expected for a late summer release this year from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
