“Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin” Launches Soon on Toonami!

Suit up again. For the first time.

Toonami is going through some lineup shifts. With series like Hunter X Hunter, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures, and The Promised Neverland all leaving the action-toon block within the next several weeks, Adult Swim has done a fabulous job of injecting new IP so as to make sure we’re all taken care of.

The next premiere for the line-up was revealed yesterday with the announcement of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin – Advent of the Red Comet, a compilation of the recent six Gundam Origin OVAs (based on a manga retelling the events of the classic Gundam anime) split up into thirteen 24-minute episodes. This is a similar treatment to the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn films, which themselves were split into twenty-two episodes and aired on Toonami between the two seasons of Iron-Blooded Orphans.

Personally, while I’m glad that the Origin story received an anime adaptation, I was more hoping the rest of the series that does the actual retelling would be done to better commemorate Gundam’s 40th anniversary that recently passed in April of this year. But I suppose having another mecha show on Toonami is a good compromise. Check out further Toonami related news here on Bubbleblabber as it develops.
