Man Gets 125,000+ Retweets, Will Dress as Ninja Turtle on His Wedding Day

TMNT

Once upon a time, on August 26, 2015, a 27-year-old writer named Nic Vargus decided to tweet a seemingly innocent joke that he made up on the spot:

After seeing the tweet quickly get 40 RTs, he informed his girlfriend, Lindsey Oakes, of his post. Not believing the goal would ever be reached, Lindsey agreed to the conditions set, and the two sat back and watched the number of supporters slowly increase. But then something happened, and the tweet went viral in a big way, with 7,000 RTs in just the first evening. Then, on the second day, Twitter itself even acknowledged his challenge:

Nic’s message was suddenly spreading like wildfire, hitting 30,000, then 70,000, and with some help from the Twitter accounts of former colleagues at IGN and celebrities like Seth Rogen, it jumped up to 100,000 in just a few minutes. The goal was reached.

This obviously says a lot about how the Internet operates and the concept of fame in today’s world – as many have pointed out and explored in its wake – but who cares? The only thing that matter is: Will the dude and his lady (who aren’t even engaged yet) follow through on their promise?

The Washington Post caught up with Vargus, who said, “If we’re so lucky as to get married, there’s no question – I’m wearing the turtle suit.”

So, Nic & Lindsey, if you’re looking for someone to cover your eventual nuptials…BubbleBlabber hereby volunteers to attend the ceremony.

And hopefully the reception too. We love pizza.
