Kevin Reilly splits up teams for TBS and TNT programming…let’s see how this affects Adult Swim and AmDad

TBS-Conan

Former FOX programming dude Kevin Reilly now works for Turner Broadcasting in an executive role and one of the first things he decided to do to kick off 2015 was make a few changes to the overall hierarchy. Kevin emailed a letter to staff that Deadline has, and in it Kevin talks up his plans for the future, a lot of which we will probably hear about in May.

I personally haven’t watched anything on TNT besides basketball, and I’m a Celtics fan, so its been a couple years since the network has been on my dial. That said, Turner does manage TBS, Adult Swim, and Cartoon Network and these are all networks I watch on a regular basis. Kevin says that he plans to triple the amount of original programming over the next three years. How much of this is animated? Unsure at this juncture. But, we have people in place that are evaluating this.

For starters, Kevin has noted that he plans on updating the branding of TBS, making it a destination for original programming with efforts in digital and social nets being touted. Brett Weitz is managing the slate as the new EP of Original Programming.

As of now, this doesn’t seem to affect Adult Swim or Cartoon Network from a content sense. But, TBS? I think the success of American Dad is going to see the network install new animated franchises, and actively seek out free agents. Which ones? Hard to say at this juncture.
