Our first look at Justice League vs. The Fatal Five sure brings back some nostalgic feelings.
Comic book inspired films may be the hottest thing in the box office right now, but it’s business as usual for DC and Warner Bros. Animation. Releasing animated films that are as close to the original content as possible has kept the DC Animated Universe going strong for decades. A lot of their popularity is attributed to the classic 90’s cartoons Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. With our first look at Justice League vs. The Fatal Five being released today, it looks like we will be stepping back in time to when this Animated Universe made its mark.
Substantially, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five brings us executive producers Sam Register and Bruce Timm – who is notably to thank for the aforementioned DC animated series of old. Equally as exciting, the power trinity returns with George Newbern, Susan Eisenberg, and Kevin Conroy reprising their roles as Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman.
Aside from all of the familiar names and faces, the thing that stands out most with this new feature-length film is the animation. While the DC Animated Universe has been rebooting their art style and Justice League members in their latest releases, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five will feature the art style of Justice League Unlimited, oversized broad shoulders, tiny hips, and all.
It’s going to be like a trip down memory lane with an all-new story featuring some characters that have never appeared on screen before. Here is the official synopsis and trailer below.
Justice League vs. The Fatal Five finds the Earth’s future hanging in the balance when the Justice League faces a powerful new threat – the Fatal Five. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman seek answers as the time-travelling trio of Mano, Persuader and Tharok terrorize Metropolis in search of budding Green Lantern, Jessica Cruz – whom they need to free remaining Fatal Five members Emerald Empress and Validus in order to carry out their sinister plan. But the Justice League discover an ally from another time in the peculiar Star Boy – brimming with volatile power, could he be the key to thwarting the Fatal Five? An epic battle against ultimate evil awaits!
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC, the feature-length animated film arrives from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Digital starting March 30, 2019, and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack on April 16, 2019.
