“Justice League: Dark” and “Sausage Party” Dealing With the Growing Pains of Not Being for Kids
Yep…controversy is still a thing despite the internet age.
No, the road to having adult animated movies produced is not an easy one for either the producers and two recent stories prove just that.
For example, Justice League: Dark director Jay Oliva did a breakdown of the first trailer with Empire and ,in it, you can tell that while production was happening the PG-13 rating was the goal, but that Rated R kind of happened to be of coincidence. Moreover, the director wishes he could’ve shot for a HARD R-rating which could be something to look out for in future DC Entertainment movies.
Though in fairness, Sausage Party is still bulldozing some of those paths that future R-rated animated movies will have to take advantage of when it comes to dealing with the religious right movements in various parts of the world.
Deadline.com is reporting that Catholic groups are fighting the -12 certificate given by France’s classification commission mostly as a result of the animated orgy scene. As the article notes, a lot of these Catholic groups oppose social changes like same-sex marriage and whatnot so clearly Sausage Party is right up there in terms of social importance according to these fucking clowns.
This has since been upheld.
