JOHN “ON THE SPOT” WAIT, BUT ‘THE PJS’ WERE AWESOME!

So, I’m perusing around the interwebs the other day when I stumble on an article posted on the Vulture Blog about the 25 shows that won’t be part of FOX’s 25th Anniversary celebration set to air later this month. While reading, I was taken aback by all the terrible programming that FOX has had over the years that is until number 25 came up…The PJ’s. Welp, after the jump, take a look at what I think about Vulture’s 25th pick.

According to the article, this is why The PJ’s were number 25 on shows FOX won’t be celebrating on its soon to air special:

Fox gave Eddie Murphy a lot of money to produce and voice the starring role in this stop-action animated show, one of the network’s many attempts to expand its Sunday animation franchise over the years. It was set in an urban housing project, with Murphy playing the grumpy superintendent. Not everyone appreciated the depictions of poor people: Spike Lee and some black political groups thought it presented negative stereotypes. Only 42 episodes were produced, with the final season airing on the WB Network.

First thing’s first, I wanted to let Mr. Josef Adalian know that although the PJ’s premiered on a Sunday night two days later it would be on its regularly scheduled time slot on Tuesday nights after King of the Hill. Second, there were 48 episodes produced with 2 episodes that were NOT aired and were later released on DVD. And guess what, I own all three DVDs of this motherfucker and I’m as white as they come so I know what I’m talkin’ about!

Now granted, a good point does get brought up as to WHY the show probably got cancelled, but there were probably a number of other reasons. For one, Eddie Murphy became disinterested in the project and actually had other voice actors substitute for him at times for the voice of Mr. Stubbs. Next, the second this fucking show went over to the WB, it was over…why? Welp, the network used to be famous for cancelling awesome shows like the Wayans Brothers(LOVED that show too) so they really hadn’t a clue. They probably didn’t have money either as making a stop motion animated show is expensive, coupled with the fact that its Eddie Murphy sure as hell made it a tough pill to swallow for any network. PS Spike Lee is a Knicks fan, which means he’s already a sucker with no self-esteem.

But, how can you NOT love the PJs!  For one, the son of a bitch won 3 Emmy awards! It was smart, funny, and you fell in love with all of the great characters. Who can forget Mrs. Avery pretty much harassing Stubbs on a nightly basis, or Juicy and his obvious ode to Fat Albert, Jimmy Ho and all his god damn one-liners that I would match against any other animated character.

So yea, FOX might not mention the PJs on their 25th Anniversary special but who gives a shit? The fact that someone would put this program on any list that may seem disparaging leaves me to wonder what Mr. Josef thinks is good TV.
