Jeff Dunham alters act for international audience

Heavy metal bands constantly get lists of songs that they aren’t allowed to play in countries and a number of them have to release records with alternate album covers just to get past censors. Earlier this year, the producers for South Park: The Stick of Truth had to come out with a number of different versions of the game dependent on location. So, if you live in a country that values free-speech, count your lucky stars because some places are just ridiculous in their censor policies.

Add Malaysia, the country which recently had a hand in censoring information pertaining to the recent MH370 plane crash, to the list of countries that ask their live-acts to alter their routines in the name of religion. That’s exactly what happened with Jeff Dunham as he had to pretty much change up his ‘Achmed the Terrorist’ routine in accordance with Malaysian authorities. Not only did Jeff have to reintroduce Achmed as ”Achmed’s brother”, but he had to take out any sort of religious overtones which evidently includes any jokes about ”virgins”.

Fortunately, not all governments are as shitty as the Malaysian government, as Jeff brought ‘Achmed the Dead Terrorist’ to both the UAE and Israel and apparently he rocked BOTH of those joints without having to make any changes or alterations to the act. ‘Achmed’ was recently featured in his own animated special on CMT, and as far as we know, no alterations to the script were made at the behest of Barry Obama.
