One of the perks to following a ton of animators and studios on Twitter is that random people and studios will follow you as well. This is exactly what happened with A Sitting Duck. One day I get a random follow from them and ‘BOOM!!’ here they are on Webs Day! Coming from a non-animation background, I thought this video was exceptionally intriguing. I’ve only seen animators do their work on special features and DVD extras, never a full screen shot of them actually working. Having seen that I can gladly say I never want to be an animator or cartoonist because good gravy does that shit look labor intensive and difficult! I take back all the shitty scores I ever gave out due to animation. Except for Apollo Gauntlet, they earned that one. The only real gripe with the video is the use of dubstep. Just because you make your art on a Macbook Pro doesn’t mean your music has to be made by one. Plenty of young bands would kill to have their music heard. Open your ears and not just a file on Garageband.

I’ve been falling into a bit of a rut here with Webs Day. I have to realize that the internet, as well as life, can’t and isn’t always funny. Sometimes I really should stop and focus more on the serious and dramatic videos like “Robo Western” from the Zeurel YouTube page. Now I know some of you are going to say that this video came out in 2010. But it was just rereleased in HD and it’s brand new to me. This was truly an awe inspiring video. It has a feel to it that is refreshing, almost like The Iron Giant meets Cowboy Bebop in a way. It’s cartoony without being childish. Ok, having the bad guys henchmen named Nuts and Bolts is a bit childish. One thing that isn’t childish is the voice acting. The sheriff’s voice reminds me a bit of “The Dark Knight Rises” version of Bane. Yes kids, Bane wasn’t always an Englishman with a shaved head. The rest of the voices have a Gen 1 Transformers feel which I absolutely love! The animation is fantastic. It was incredibly ingenious to hide the mouths of all characters to save on animating. It’s amazing what emotions can be conveyed just using eyes and eyebrows, no matter if they’re flesh or metal. The one glaring thing that I didn’t like was the ending. Don’t get me wrong, 7+ min is pretty long by Webs Day standards to begin with, but I would have loved to see the final draw go a bit longer. Honestly, I’d like this more if it were drawn as a full movie.

Holy Valhalla that animation looks great! It reminds me of some of the things you would see on MTV when they were into animation back when Aeon Flux and Daria were popular. The art is incredibly detailed for such a short video. The attention to detail is remarkable, proving that Mr. Colgrave will never settle with just basic or crappy animation. There wasn’t any voice acting in this video, but the animal shrieks and screams sounded pretty authentic. All in all a near perfect video in just under 2 minutes!

Thats it for this week’s edition of Webs Day! As always you can follow me on Twitter (ChefRichBB) or you could stop being so fucking lazy and follow me in person. Did that make me sound like I was starting a cult or welcoming stalkers? Either way I welcome the challenge!

Hope allergy season isn’t being to rough on you guys!
